• Writing Update

While some queries were out in the wild, looking for the perfect agent for my story, I worked on drafting part two of the duology. My current plan is to finish the first draft of book two. If there are no positive responses by then, I will rework book one and start querying anew. But first, I will travel a bit, visiting the Frankfurt Bookfair very soon, followed by a relaxing vacation afterwards.

  • Entering the querying trenches

Querying is hard. Querying takes a lot of time and patience. Querying…will take all your strength. Still, starting today I will join all the other talented writers out there and enter the trenches. Querying means to send letters to agents in order to find the one that will champion your book and be your partner in the publishing world. And like all the others I hope to find that one person. Fingers crossed I will find a home for Shinju and Oleander in the near future!

  • Travelling: Japan

In March 2024 one of my long-time travelling goals came true and we visited Japan and South Korea. After a flight of about 13 hours, we stayed in Tokyo for four days, before we boarded a cruise ship which would take us along the south-eastern coast and further south to Okinawa and Amami-Oshima. Towards the end of our trip, we also visited Jeju, South Korea, and ended in Seoul, from where we returned home. As an early fan of manga, Japan and japanese culture, it was a long-lasting wish to travel there one day. Of course, some of the highlights in Tokyo were the Tokyo Tower, Asakusa Shrine and the…

  • An editing journey

Whoever starts to write professional, knows that editing is inevitable along the way. Back in November 2023 I worked with Robin from Shadowcat Editing, who helped me to find my way – not only through typos and grammar, but also through the finer details of the English language. This helped me to get an idea on how my writing as a non-native speaker comes through and I learned some new things. In March 2024 I worked with Clara from Prometheus Editorial, who helped me to develop my story further. She gave me great insight on my own work and her feedback helped to make it even stronger. Now, June 2024, I finished…

  • How it all (re)started

In fall 2022 friends finally managed to win me over to join their online DnD group. Playing online with an international group was tempting, but I previously never had the time to really get invested. And I usually get invested in things. That said, I was asked to prepare a character and backstory. My DM was pretty surprised when I came back with three pages of backstory. That’s how Shinju was born. While I failed at writing down what we played, I soon felt the urge to write my own story with our beloved cast of characters. At the beginning of 2023 I decided to make this real and started…

  • Today I started my website!

I hope that many will find my page and join me on this journey. It’s been quite a trip already, but there will be more about this in my upcoming posts.
